are not an adequate amount of telemarketers on hand to speak with every customer that answers the phone. Call desertion defies the new rules, unless it's under a very definite and restricted set of rules.

Caller Identification Rule

It is mandatory for the telemarketers because of the new rule to have their telephone number shown on a consumer's Caller-ID service. Plus, if it is possible for the telemarketer's carrier to show the company's name that is calling, the telemarketer must have this information transmitted as well. This way, the consumer knows precisely who is on the other line and can shelter their own confidentiality. This will also hold the telemarketer more accountable, and help law enforcement in naming companies defying the "do not call" and provisions of the guidelines.

The telemarketer will be permitted to replace the name and customer or donor service number of the seller or charitable group on behalf of which the call is being placed when distributing this information.

Telemarketers are allowed 12 months to comply with each of the new demands that are in relation to Caller-ID, since they might require installing new equipment.
